What tolerances can you hold?

Standard CNC machining tolerance is ±0.0005". On precision ground components our tolerance capability is ±0.0002". Tighter tolerances are achievable on specific features through EDM, grinding, and precision fitting processes. All work is dimensionally verified before delivery. What materials can you machine?

Can you machine hardened materials?

Yes. Brown Tool & Mold performs hard milling and CNC hard turning on materials up to 65 HRC Rockwell hardness — eliminating the need to anneal and re-harden parts for machining. Sinker EDM and wire EDM also machine hardened conductive materials regardless of hardness.

What is sinker EDM used for?

Sinker EDM (electrical discharge machining) uses controlled electrical discharges to erode material from hardened metal. It is used for deep cavities, narrow slots, sharp internal corners, and complex geometry that cannot be achieved with conventional cutting tools. At Brown Tool & Mold, sinker EDM is used extensively for injection mold cavity and core work as well as precision aerospace and defense components.
